Urban Youth Meets The Nel Twins

Urban Youth Magazine caught up with The Viral Tik-Tok Stars, The Nel Twins, for a chat about their career, and to find out a little bit more about the girls. Here’s what happened….

UYM: Can you tell us a bit about you?

NT: We are known as the Nel twins on social Media, our names are shanae and Renae. We are 22 years old and we are from Southampton. We are half British and half Zimbabwean. We are also Christian! We have gained a huge social media presence on TikTok and Instagram. On TikTok we have 1.4 million followers and on Instagram we have 145K followers. But we give all glory and thanks to the most high because this is all a part of his plan.

UYM: What is your proudest accomplishment?

NT: Our proudest accomplishment would be when we joined our first ever modelling agency who were called Nevs models they are one of the most popular and respected modelling agency in London. We secured a job with KFC and WALKERS – this was our first commercial advert, it genuinely felt like we were living in a dream, because this used to be things myself and Renae talked to God about. To experience this prayer and to walk in it was mind blowing because we used to daydream about the days we would be on set when we were like 15!

UYM: What’s the funniest place you have ever fallen asleep?

NT: Me and Renae both are very fussy when it comes to sleeping. We can only sleep in a bed, hotel or a car, not even a sofa…we find it difficult to fall asleep if it’s not a bed. So a car would probably be the most wild one out of them all.

UYM: How do you organise your time?

NT: In our industry things can get very busy so how we organise our time is by using a calendar

UYM: What is your most used emoji?

NT: Shanae’s is ( 😂 ) Renae’s is ( )

UYM: What advice do you have for someone new to the industry?

NT: Our advice would be don’t ever lose yourself, stay firm in the word of God and his promises. This industry is very competitive and hard, you have to be willing to be strong and independent, you have to be thick skinned too because there are a lot of trolls. Once you have your vision in this industry, work extra hard as won’t be easy to get there. It is a lot of hard work, sweat, and tears, and prayers have gotten us to where we are today. Another piece of advice would be to pray about it.

UYM: Where do you see yourself in 30 years?

NT: I see me and shanae very successful, focused on God and still modelling and influencing, and have many successful businesses – these being a potential makeup brand and a clothing brand. Hopefully by then we have driven into the reality tv industry as tv has always been something we have always been interested in and we have a few things going on now but have to keep our lips closed – to be honest it’s all Gods plan! But gosh by then we will be 52 and surly by then we will both have a lovely family and a blessed career!
